Apartments are by far the most popular choice for visitors holidaying in Greece. They come with their own kitchen or kitchenette, usually in small family-run buildings with a handful of units, where the hosts often live in the same building or right next door.

Who apartments are for

Apartments suit almost everyone: couples, families with children and small groups of friends. The main advantages:

  • Freedom over meals — cook what you want, when you want. With kids this matters a lot, and it keeps the budget under control.
  • Space for the money — for the price of a hotel room you typically get more square metres, a terrace and a kitchen.
  • A hosted feel — owners are often on site, so issues get fixed quickly and you get first-hand tips on beaches and tavernas.

Studio or one-bedroom — what’s the difference

  • A studio is a single room combining the beds, kitchenette and dining area, plus a bathroom. Ideal for a couple or a couple with a small child. Compact and the cheapest option, but with no separate rooms.
  • A one-bedroom apartment (1+1) has a separate bedroom and a living room with a kitchen (the living area usually holds a sofa bed). More comfortable for families — the kids go to sleep while you stay up in the living room.
  • Larger units also exist (two-bedroom, or split-level maisonettes) for bigger families — check the exact bed count, as a sofa bed is often counted as two sleeping places.

Indicative prices by season

Prices depend on the region, distance to the beach and the fit-out, but broadly they fall in these ranges (per night, for the whole unit):

TypeEarly season (May)June / SeptemberJuly–August
Studio (2–3 people)€25–40€35–60€50–90
One-bedroom (3–4 people)€35–55€45–80€70–120

Treat these as orientation only; beachfront units or those with a sea view usually sit above these ranges. More on picking your dates in When to travel to Greece.

What to check before booking

  • Real distance to the beach — “5 minutes from the sea” sometimes means 5 minutes by car. Check the map and ask the owner.
  • Air conditioning — is it in every room, and is it included? Some older properties still charge it separately.
  • Parking — in peak season, guaranteed parking in places like Sarti or Pefkochori is worth its weight in gold.
  • The kitchen — hobs, a fridge and basic cookware are standard; an oven and a coffee machine are not. Ask if it matters to you.
  • Deposit and payment — arrangements are made directly with the owner: typically a deposit up front and the balance on arrival. Check the cancellation terms in advance (see the Cancellation Policy).
